Our two day introduction to QGIS provides a solid foundation for you to utilise location based data in your work. The workbook and course exercises use publicly available datasets and by the end of the course will have produced report ready maps. This course is suitable for beginners and those wishing to increase their skills, or for those migrating to Open Source technology from proprietary products.
Places are limited to 4 delegates to ensure a high level of individual attention.
What this course covers:
- Getting started with QGIS, concepts & using the software
- Creating & Editing Vector Data, using attribute tables, labelling, and loading data
- Using & Sourcing Raster Data, using WMS Data Sources
- Creating offline basemaps
- Best practise on storing data
- Styling and classifying data, the basics of cartography & sharing styles
- Installing and using the QFIELD plugin
- Sourcing & using data, checking validity including licensing & copyright
- Querying your data & using research tools
- Creating report ready outputs, templates, sharing your map
- Georeferencing PDFs & using plugins to easily incorporate PDF information
- Set up the Biodiversity Net Gain Template to suit your business and workflow
For this course you will need to have installed QGIS (minimum Version 3.14.12 LTR). This is free to use and download software available from https://www.qgis.org/en/site/.
Once you've booked your course you will receive a confirmation email detailing the course time and date. We will send you the course work booklets & sample data 3 days in advance of the course start date for you to set up and download. We recommend you have a second screen in order to see your work booklets and the QGIS software at the same time. Alternatively, you could print these off.
Webinars are via Zoom so you won’t need any new software to attend. This course will be delivered online using a combination of Zoom for video conferencing & screen sharing.
We recommend that you have access to a second display for your computer or something you can use to display course notes, QGIS, and video conferencing simultaneously.
