QFIELD for Biodiversity Net Gain
Biodiversity Net Gain mapping for most sites will need more accurate and precise mapping to be created for most developments. Over 2 days you'll learn the fundamentals of QGIS and how to customise the Biodiversity Net Gain Template for your needs & projects. During the course you will map out the different habitats & site information before exporting the calculations into the metric. This course is suitable for beginners and will focus on the skills needed to get the results you need.
Learning Outcomes
Getting Started
Introduction to the software, user interface and how to configure and customise for your needs. You'll learn the key terminology and how GIS can be used in the Environment, Transport & Ecology Sector.
Creating & Editing Vector Data
Learn to create, load, edit and export vector datasets. You'll gain experience of a range of open-data sources and work with the attributes.
Raster Data
Loading in web sources of background mapping such as Open Street Map & Google Satellite. You'll learn to create offline versions ready to load onto your tablet.
QFIELD Plugin
Installing the QFIELD plugin and upload your workspace to the cloud. From there you will add in habitats on your tablet before sending back to your laptop/desktop.
Styling your data
You'll learn how to apply colour and labels for your data using simple styles as well as more complex data driven methods. Understanding best practise for different methods for you to create compelling visuals.
Sourcing data
When you're new to GIS you'll want to know where to find accurate & reliable data from legitimate sources. You'll have a list of data sources to get you started for the Environment Sector.
Queries & research
Learn how to perform queries on your data using selections, calculations, filtering and expressions. You can then use these skills to create workflows on regularly performed actions.
Storing data
Learn the best practise for storing & sharing data whether it's just for you or for your organisation. You'll also learn how to export, save and share data.
Georeferencing
You'll learn to use several tools to georeference images and PDFs into your workspace for background mapping or for digitising data.
Biodiversity Net Gain
Using the Biodiversity Net Gain QGIS template you'll map a simple habitat baseline & post development before exporting the calculations.
Habitat Mapping
Create report ready map outputs as images or PDFs. Gain an understanding of layered PDFs (which always impress) and get hands on experience with UKHab & Biodiversity Net Gain styling.
Further learning resources
You'll receive a terminology cheat sheet, data sources list and further learning resources to help you embed your new skills.

Course pre-requisites
