Using Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) & Sites of SSSI Impact Risk Zones data in environment assessments

Updated: 19 hours ago

✨It's free data Friday!✨

This week it's Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI's) & SSSI Impact Risk Zones to help developers, consultants and members of the public, who are preparing to submit a planning application.

You can use the SSSI IRZs to consider whether a proposed development is likely to affect a SSSI and choose whether to seek pre-application advice from Natural England. This will allow any potential impacts to be considered within the planning application and so minimise the risk of delays at the formal planning stage

📍 First, download the SSSI data (link) & SSSI Risk Zone data (link) from the Defra Data Portal and add it to QGIS (other flavours of GIS are available). Style it up so you can see through your data and locate your site.

📍 You can select the Impact Zones that might affect your site and take the link from the attribute table. Or, you can enable map tips and have them as clickable links to make it easier for you

This would be an excellent data layer to add into your projects and templates to more easily find site information in the pre-application stage.

If you don't have templates, or need a workflow overhaul get in touch and I can get help you get a slick and easy to use workspace!
